Novum 06/08 Bürolized

Things can get out of hand. On these past months we had so many events worthy to publish here, but time is the only we have less than money, and months pass away like in any other ocasion for me. Before I can take some photos from it, let me share with you all that we are proud to be features on the NOVUM - world of graphic design 06/08 - June 2008 Issue.

Featuring a 5 pages bürocratik article with out story so far and several Branding, Web and Illustrations picked by the Novum Staff. Seeing our name on the front cover of such a prestigious graphic design zine is something I’ve never expected, and it does taste like chocolate :)

I’ll try to get some photos as soon as possible now that the zines arrived. Thanks Bettina!

Vobis new ID

Vobis has a new ID. But it has some glyphs so fragile (s an b) that made me look several times. I mean, custom typography is cool and sometimes mandatory (specially on type-only logotypes) but that doesn’t mean we can ignore some optical “laws” for such difficult glyphs like the S that is leaning to the left, and optical compensation of the “b” interception on the circle that looks simply clumbsy. It’s not that my suggestion is the best logo of the world, maybe it’s too fat for this purpose, but sometimes it really pays to check the type details that good type designers do as a starting point, after all they do it so much better than us.

Since EDP and CONTINENTE new identities that we see the rounded type +red/wam red flooding the rebrandings of the big network stores in Portugal. I guess Worten takes my vote among these, being the continente the boldest rounded type you’ll ever find for sure ;D.

Well, I coudn’t pick a better team for new a new Type website such as Stephen Coles (Typophile + FF),  Yves Peters (Typophile, typographer and typographica and the type ID encyclopedia) and Erik Spiekermann (FF Meta author and Fontshop visionaire).
On their words the site will: “Along with delivering advice and inspiration, our goal is to add a perceptive voice to the type community, bridging the gap between font users and font suppliers.”This means the type community is getting organized and everybody wins from it. Point you browser into: Font Feed.

OA Identity

Ordem dos Arquitectos was looking for an new identity and unleashed one month ago a public contest where all the designers/studios were free to submit their best idea. Today the finalists were revealed a few minutes ago. Congratulations to the finalists, some of them are new values such as Nata Design (new design company for what I saw on their blog) and UFF Portugal and ARS design.

As for our proposal, which I like a lot, didn’t make it to the finals is presented below! It would be nice that OA or CPD could publish all the 220 submitions :) we would all learn from it.

Boom Studios

We are proud to reveal our latest flash website preview: Boomstudios. It’s the best music recording portuguese studio (renamed from the old Mário Barreiros Studio) owned by Pedro Abrunhosa. The VR Engine is a buro product called Buro360 (no papervision 3d used), and this is it’s the first public glimpse. Don’t forget the sea sickness pills :) and explore this amazing studio.

This is only a section of the site, of course. Full site available soon!
